Daily Outfit: Chemise blanche

Rugged up but still rocking the crisp white shirt. I hear it's a... basic.

Hello, bicycle!

I dream of Disney

Disneyland Paris! I'm hoping it won't be too long now before I'm back reunited with my friends (Mickey and Minnie, although personally, I rate Daisy Duck!)

Elle France celebrated EuroDisney's 20th birthday by staging a fun little fashion shoot.

I always enjoy when magazines stage this kind of themed editorial!

Thoughts on films

Last week was a bit of a funny one where I found myself working hard but also trying, trying, trying, to activate that film appreciation gland inside me. It's just not happening for me, folks, and maybe I just have to accept my short attention span and inability to sit still (literally, I found myself doing exercises in my chair during The Hunger Games on Saturday).

I don't think it helps that I watched movies on topics I have no interest in. Case in point?
  • Wimbledon. I like Kirsten Dunst and thought this would be quirky and cute. Yawn. Not interested in tennis but did appreciate having some background noise for my marking
  • Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. Again, thought this would be quirky and cute. And Ewan McGregor is fun. BUT! Found myself rolling eyes and hoping for the end. Turns out salmon fishing isn't my thing
  • Alien 2. Not my choice (neither was the original Alien a few weeks back). The manfriend keeps telling me that aliens are due for a pop-culture revival (as surely vampires have had their time in the sun?...) Minimal interest (although much respect for Sigourney Weaver)
  • Water for Elephants. I'm just not interested in relationships n' shit. Enjoyed some sparkly costumes but found it easier to focus on my marking

I'm more interested in Emily Blunt's dress at an LA premiere than in her new film.

So what's a girl to do? Abandon her quest to become cinema literate?

I'm hoping you can give me some gold star recommendations and restore my faith.

Z is for...

I have come to the conclusion (after many overseas visits and thorough explorations of the local store) that Zara is just not my kind of shop. And that's okay.

Daily Outfit: So Serious!

I've actually bought a few books lately on how to let Play back into your day and not be so serious. I need to keep a lighter heart and not get so swept up in my own artificial deadlines as a teacher working to an incessant clock. Easier said than done!

My students always love the blue shoes.

PS. My workwear for the next three days will include a white shirt. I bought a few recently and have been trying to incorporate them in many an outfit! Currently they're all in the washing basket though...

Superb Saturdays

More so than Sunday, I find Saturday is my day of the week. I don't have to get up early for work, and I have the whole day to myself while manfriend squeezes in an early morning bike ride, work and socializing.

The routine I usually find myself falling into (and I don't mind one bit!):
  • Have a small sleep-in then spend an hour or so in bed reading first thing
  • Eggs or pancakes for breakfast or...
  • Eat vegetable dumplings in front of my latest download (sometimes while sipping wine before noon - cheeky!)
  • Meet up with friends for lunch
  • Bike ride to my local library
  • An afternoon pottering around the house or visiting my parents
  • Ideally, an afternoon nap. Realistically, couch time with magazines

Daily Outfit: Slow down!

Has it really been a whole week since my last post? Eek.

Fun weekend wear.

You know what's hard? (apart from everything at the moment, it seems)

  • Getting home before the sun sets - and hence no opportunity for outfit snaps, nor evening runs
  • Getting out of bed in the morning - too cold outside my bed!
  • Getting going! ARGH

So. Here's me saying hi (Hi!) with just a little one to let you know I'm still alive (just) and trying desperately to figure out the work-life balance thing and get enough sleep.

See you soon.

Daily Outfit: Short Week!

I was doing so well, posting last week. Then I got really, really busy. Not enough time to exercise busy! Do not dig.

A few colourful snaps of workwear for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy.

Winter means no daylight for taking outfit photos. Enjoy the boy's detritus behind me!

Sensible in the kitchen.

Bruise wear.

Have a swell week!

Wednesday Wrap-up

It's been quite some time since I've told you about the ins and outs of my week.

I'd like to give this week a motion theme: it's something that has kept cropping up all week. I'm teaching it in a couple of my physics classes (@Newton), I've driven all the way down to Carrickalinga and back, and my car's been waiting for me at the repairers. I guess the opposite happened last night - sleep inertia. Feeling all the better for it though!

While I've only been running a few times this week, I feel like I've been running around town (see what I did there?) running errands.

Bibimbap Boppidy Boo! We're getting pretty good at making this!

My weekend at the beach involved:
1. No beach time.
2. Plenty of puzzle-doing time!
3. An excursion to a waterfall in the middle of nowhere.
4. Beer and books on the balcony.
5. A somewhat drunken foray into the world of Dungeons and Dragons.

Overall, some mighty good times! Perhaps I should be pleased there's no photographic evidence...

Sleeping Beauty

Good morning! With every intention of posting last night (bring back Wednesday Wrap-ups, I hear you cry!) I crawled into bed when I got home from work (school) at 6.30, and didn't wake up until .... past midnight.

I usually look just like this but with more drool.

I did get myself up then (only to get changed into pyjamas and brush my teeth) and then it was back into bed to continue a 12-hour slumber (punctuated by a few sleepless hours worrying about school. Life of a teacher!) I didn't dream of any princes but did picture myself back in France.

Stay tuned for a (belated) Wednesday Wrap-up for the week that was!

A Quick Glimpse

One of the bits I like best in the multitude of podcasts that I've been listening to lately is the segment at the end where the hosts divulge what they're into at the moment. It's great for discovering new books, music and other culture!

As I'm trying to blog more this week (even though working only off the iPad makes things a bit more challenging), here's a quick glimpse into what's floating my boat right now.

Listening: As I wrote, I've been getting into podcasts in a big way (how has it taken me so long to discover this?!) I actually prefer listening to them than music when out running, and they make the journey to and from work fly by. Favourites include This American Life (seen above) and Slate's Cultural Gabfest (recommended by my mom!). I have been dabbling in others, and am of course all ears to your suggestions.

Watching: I'm coming to realize I'm not much of a movie person and that's ok. With that said, I did win tickets to the new Audrey Tautou film! I've started watching the new American series, Girls. Have you seen it? It's getting a lot of commentary, for better or worse.

Reading: Finally decided to give The Hunger Games a go. I'm still trying to iron out how I feel about it, but overall I think I enjoyed it. Giving myself a break though before the next one. Otherwise I've been enjoying Capote's In Cold Blood. I must give the movie (Capote) another watch. Books on my bedside table include Elegance of the Hedgehog, Strawberry Fields, and 1Q84. I feel so lucky that I always have something to read!

What are you loving right now? Care to share?

Three Extraordinary Things

I've been a bit hard on myself lately (Still not posting? No good ideas? You need to exercise more.) and have realized that sometimes it's good to take time out to recognize the things that are truly wonderful about you.

Here are my top three (things you did not know about Sequin Cat):

1. I speak French fluently. As in, wake up, go to work, go shopping, go home and chat with French housemates fluent. I lived in Paris for most of 2009 and early 2010, and had a variety of adventures over there. In fact, I held down a three month full-time contract at the happiest place on Earth, Disneyland Paris. Sometimes I forget/take for granted how extraordinary possessing a second language is (in Australia, at least).

2. I play some mean percussion. I started learning the drums when I was about 9, after my plans of playing the harp were thwarted. I've moved away from the heavy rock drumming that I was into in high school and have since made timpani my specialty. I really, really enjoy being challenged by music.

3. I majored in theoretical and experimental physics. No mean feat, given the way I squandered my first two years of university experience! There's something about the freedom and clarity of expressing yourself mathematically that really resonates with me. Since then, I've taken (some of) my university experience and am applying it in a high school physics-teaching capacity. And I love it!

Tell me, dear Sequinettes, what's extraordinary about you?

A colourful life!

It's getting cold and grey so here are some colourful pictures to make the rain go away!

I'm not normally an orange fan but I love this!

Very Velma!

This girl's blog looks pretty cute too!

Love this look! I've been wearing a white shirt all week. Looks like Paris to me.

The contrast of red, white rose and dark hair looks very Snow White!

I may have to add Whitney's colourful blog to my reader also.

LOVE red and LOVE clashing with stripes.

More clashing!

Isn't this coat great?! I would've styled it less eighties.. maybe a pink dress underneath? (Because that's less eighties...)

Another great green coat (GGC)!

Love the neon green zing against a monochrome outfit.

Green theme....

Tim Walker is some kind of magician.

This model reminds me of Alexis Bledel, from Gilmore Girls.

Love this rainbow skirt, and how she's toned it down with a plain black top.

Just gorgeous.

Perfect floral dress.
